I had a nice gathering this past Sunday that toched on many topics. The one I find myself always coming back to is this: WHY IS IT SO HARD TO GET PEOPLE IN MY AREA INTERSTED/COMMITTED TO OUTINGS SUCH AS THIS????
I keep getting the feeling that the main thing that organized religion has going for it is this... it's organized! People get & keep a routine. This at least gets people to show up fairly regularly. It probably does not increase the spirituality of the masses.. but it helps with a strong sense of community.
BUT... there was a woman there that passed along an interesting tidbit to me.. Apparently if on the night of a full moon, or a cross quarter holiday, you get super excited and begin to ask "hey, what do you have planned?" fellow seasoned Witches immediately feel that you are a newbie! HMMM... maybe that is my problem!
I have celebrated Christmas, Easter, Valentines Day, etc for the past 36 years & every year I ask "so what are your plans for the holiday?" This has never identified me as a newbie to Christianity. People ask, answer, & discuss all those things without a second thought. I for one put the same amount of enthusiasm into my Full Moons & Cross Quarters without a second thought. I share & celebrate all customs & holidays with the same gusto. Every time I ask people what there plans are in all the Pagan groups I get the same answer SILENCE.
It really makes me wonder.. why? Is it because enthusiasm isn't appropriate in Paganism? Is it because people keep their celebrations so private & personal there is no room to share?
Could be. But I have to be honest, I think there is a large portion of the Pagan community that is so open & free form that they are now in the same category as the non practicing Catholics. Paganism has become something of an ethnicity as opposed to a religion. They are Pagan, but actual practice is limited to the occasional meal and circle. I think it's quiet because people think there isn't any time to get together for circles, spiritual disussions, and dumb suppers..
I for one still feel the Magick when I watch the full moon begin her glorious rise into the sky or the first ear of corn is pulled for Lammas... & so I say
So, what are your plans for the first celebration of the harvest? Oh and by the way.. how was your full moon?
Hey chick,
ChristiIt's been eons, I know. I too fall off the witchy wagon. It happens. Life happens. But we don't stop being who we are inside. This time of year always puts me back on my path.
Sorry, I contributed to that lack of community you were feeling. Hope I can rectify that.
How are you doing? How is the dog fostering going?
Best,
Christi
